Answers: 1- What is an au-pair
placement?
An au pair placement is an arrangement
where a single person between 17 and 27 comes to the United
Kingdom to study English and
-
lives for up to two years as a member of an English-speaking
family and
-
helps in the home for up to five hours a day with at least
two full days off a week, in return for a reasonable
allowance and their own room. (The current recommended
amount for the weekly allowance is £65.)
2-Which countries are included
in the au pair scheme?
An au pair must be a national of one of the following
countries.
Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium,
Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark,
Estonia, The Faroes, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Greenland,
Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco,
New Zealand, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal,
Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.
3-How long
will it take to find an au-pair for my family?
We have a large network of au pairs, so many families find their Au-Pairs shortly after
their application to us, typically it takes between 1 and 5
working days.
4- Does my Au-Pair has to register
with the police?
If they have to register with the police, there will be a
stamp in their passport saying the holder of the passport
must be registered with the police They must register
within seven days of arriving in the United Kingdom.
To register, They will need their
passport and two passport-size photographs. If you are staying in
London Metropolitan Police Area, your Au-Pair should take these to
the Overseas Visitors Records Office, Brandon House, 180 Borough
High Street, London SE1 1LH, between 9am and 4.30pm, Monday to
Friday. If you are not staying in the Metropolitan Area, your
Au-Pair should contact your local police force for the address and
opening hours of other police registration offices. Your Au-Pair
will have to pay a fee for registering with the police.
5-If I am not happy with the
au-pair, can I change him/her?
If you are not happy with
the Au-Pair, you need to give 2 weeks notice both to the Au-Pair
and to our agency.
This 2 weeks' notice gives us enough time to find another family
for the Au-Pair.
6-Do you offer male Au-Pairs?
Yes, our male au-pairs come
with a good level of English with excellent child-care references.
It is a good idea to have a male au-pair if you want an elder
brother for your children.
7-We don't have any children
but would like to invite someone just for a Cultural Exchange.
It is a good idea to share your home with someone from
another culture. It will be fantastic for your family members to
get to know another culture and learn another language. You can
learn French or Spanish or Italian even Turkish. You are only
supposed to supply us with our family application form, please
explain your offer in the further remarks area at the very end of
the application form.
8-We don't have children, but
we need someone for our garden and pets.
It is not necessary to have
children to employ someone from EU countries. We strongly
recommend that you employ a male au-pair for this kind of work.
9-There is no
college available in our area. Can we have an au-pair?
Unfortunately, No. Au-pairs
come to the UK to learn and improve their English. It is very
important for them to attend an English language course.
10-Our au pair has been with us for two years, and her
visa is expiring. We want her to stay longer with us, is this
possible?
Depending
on which country your au pair is from she may or may not be able to
extend her time with you in the UK. If
your au pair is an EU National, she should be able to extend her stay as
long as she wants.
However, if your au pair is not an EU National, she will have to check with the correct authorities to
see what her options are.
11-How do I apply?
Just fill out our on-line
application form.
